There is no doubt he is going ...I agree completely. There is no doubt he is going to be a great ballplayer and the Mariners are in desperate need of a solid #2 hitter right now, which is the perfect spot for Ackley. There should be no reason to keep him back.

And you make a great point about the fact that the M's will sell more tickets and merchandise if/when Ackley gets promoted based on the hype surrounding him, plus the fact that he could help catapult the Mariners into playoff contention.Milesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17810408.post-68327407957046194822011-06-10T08:19:55.218-04:002011-06-10T08:19:55.218-04:00Thanks for reading! I'd never seen that specific quote from Jack Z., but every GM is going to say that, if only to save pace for PR purposes. Generally, it's hard for me blame a team for keeping a player in the minors for an extra few weeks - it's the pragmatic thing to do given the rules. In Ackley's case, it's just so jarring, because a) their offense has been so terrible, b) there are such obvious holes at 2B (despite Kennedy's surprising play) and LF, and c) they're only 2.5 out of the wild card, despite such obvious flaws.

The craziest part about it? If Ackley comes up and mashes, he'll most likely get an extension buying out his arbitration years, making all of the nail-biting over the Super Two thing completely moot.James Dunnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05700193254995345523noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17810408.post-90382680436814674262011-06-10T05:42:55.743-04:002011-06-10T05:42:55.743-04:00You know what's funny, is that Jack Zduriencik...You know what's funny, is that Jack Zduriencik put Michael Pineda in the rotation to start the season because he felt like he earned the spot. Here's a direct quote from Zduriencik:

“I don’t think we’re going to worry about service time. No one’s going to hold them back. If they’re ready to play, we’re going to let them play.”

If this was the case for Pineda, why not make the same case for Ackley? Great article, by the way.Milesnoreply@blogger.com
